Brian is the younger of the two and almost certainly the easier to like. In 1970, after registering as a conscientious objector to the war in Vietnam, he was sent to Bishop, California where he served a period of “Alternate Service” as a firefighter with the California Department of Conservation. It was in Bishop that he met Dick and the two of them quickly formed a relationship made up of one consenting adult and one surprised one
For the past 28 years, Brian has worked in the aerospace industry, building and testing hydraulic and pneumatic valves for everything from space vehicles to a variety of military and commercial aircraft. His interests include bicycling, animals, computers, his blue Minicooper S and his partner. Easy-gooing and good-natured, he spends much of his free time straightening out the catastrophes Dick periodically engineers.
Dick, while opinionated and irritable, occasionally has his good moments. He is the author of two published novels; he has once or twice been in a good mood and he seems to have a soft spot for strays, both human and animal.
Dick started and managed Barrett-Marugg Services, LLC and spent 15 years building and selling computers as well as providing clients with computer and network support. He was Director of Operations for Southland Collie Rescue, Inc. for 5 years and has also worked in the insurance, municipal financing and the aerospace industries. He’s also been a wildland firefighter, a freelance writer and, in 1976, a presidential candidate running on the “Stupid People Shouldn’t Breed” ticket. In a grassroots landslide he came within a single vote of being ignored completely. Now retired, he complains a lot and sometimes feeds the dogs.
